Adventures are harder to come by when it’s dark and raining and you can’t bend your left knee. So, I’ve been getting even more lax on my definition of adventure.

Yesterday, I gave myself a mini-mani-pedi. Except I didn’t have time for the nail polish. Also, it’s really hard to reach your toes when you can’t bend your knee. It was nice to go easy on myself for a day, but also pretty anti-climactic.

Today, I went to Costco. I know that for many people, this is a common activity. There were lots of other people also at Costco. But I don’t have a membership. The last time I was at Costco was at least five years ago, with my parents. We bumped into my old elementary school friend’s dad in the parking lot. I think I bought socks.

Today, a friend who has a membership took me on a grand tour of the downtown Costco. We tried one of every sample. I found a giant bag of mixed cheese and caramel popcorn. I nearly bought a pack of four Eos lip balms. (Eos lip balm is the best, but I have one already that I bought 6 months ago and it’s still going strong.) I found the black bean noodles that I’ve been obsessed with ever since someone brought them on our Tofino trip, and a very cheap, mostly merino base layer to replace the running top that I got for Christmas three years ago and that now resembles a faded purple burlap sack with snags and a vaguely “off” scent. It was time.

I also bought some socks.

I was very proud of myself for getting out of there with my budget still mostly intact. I do regret not buying a $2 hotdog on my way out.

I have no energy today for varying my sentence structure. Tomorrow, I bake cookies.

(I need to get outside. Somebody help me.)
