Vancouver-Cover-LargeI was looking for some information about a crag I climbed at this past weekend, and I discovered this book, written by this guy, which will be published by Quickdraw Publications, the company that puts out the Squamish Select. I had no idea there was enough climbing around Vancouver to fill up a whole guidebook. I wonder if it will be any good (read: I wonder if there will be any routes at a low enough grade for me to climb, with reasonable approaches, that aren’t covered in moss). The publisher’s website doesn’t give a date for publication. It would be great to have some closer, maybe less-crowded options for days when Squish seems far away. Does anyone know when this is due to come out? Has anyone climbed near Vancouver at someplace other than Sully’s Hangout?

Update:

When I emailed the publisher in the fall to ask about when this guide might be available (and if I could interview the author), I received a cryptic, “not yet.” The website now says, “Available Spring 2014,” which is now. So…I guess start checking the shelves of your local MEC (or better yet, of another outdoor retailer that hasn’t removed the mountain from their logo in an attempt to be more like Sport Check/The Gap).
